Press Release
Francesca Harland appointed Global Head of Professional Liability at Mosaic
October 2, 2024
Hamilton, Bermuda—Mosaic Insurance has appointed Francesca Harland as its new Global Head of Professional Liability.
Harland, a leading underwriter in the unit since its inception, steps up to replace Anna Jay, who in July was named the company’s new Active Underwriter, Syndicate 1609. The move was part of a restructure of underwriting and operational teams to drive growth of Mosaic’s vital agency business.
“We are thrilled to announce Francesca’s promotion, recognising the value she has brought to Mosaic and her ability to strategically drive the business forward,” said Jay. “Professional liability is a core class for Mosaic, embodying the key characteristics we look for in portfolios of business and distinguishing itself from peers by offering expert insights in carefully selected specialist segments. We continue to see plenty of opportunity to grow the portfolio, both by segment and geographic footprint, and Francesca has the right experience and approach to deliver this.”
Mosaic has established a trusted reputation in the professional liability sphere as a lead market for non-mainstream risks in technically complex sectors and specialist industries. The company has built a successful franchise—growing its gross written premium (GWP) in this line of business by nearly 400 percent since the unit launched in June 2021.
Harland has a strong track record in the sector, focusing on miscellaneous and emerging risks and working with clients to develop niche products in the area. She joined Mosaic in 2021 from Pembroke Syndicate 4000, where she was an underwriter from 2015, and has been instrumental in building out Mosaic’s professional liability portfolio, developing both its US and international account.
“I’m delighted to be stepping up to lead the professional liability unit at Mosaic,” said Harland. “I’m proud of our growth and traction in the global market to date, and look forward to working with this talented team to continue building our business in a dynamic marketplace.”
With a current team of 10 specialists overseeing a broad range of disciplines, the unit provides coverage including Errors & Omissions and After the Event (Litigation Liability). Target clients comprise specialist engineers across energy, renewable, marine, transport and industrial sectors, as well as lawyers, actuaries, P&I club managers, security consultants, underwriting agents, and insurance brokers.
Mosaic’s evolution as a global agency continues, with its business increasingly being driven by trade-capital partners across its seven specialty lines. The company currently underwrites on behalf of 26 insurers (and growing) worldwide, originating more than USD$1 billion in GWP over the past two years alone for agency partners. As well as professional liability, its business lines include political violence, transactional liability, cyber, political risk, financial institutions, and environmental liability.
