Mosaic spearheads US growth ambitions with Manhattan move

May 2, 2024

Hamilton, Bermuda—Mosaic Insurance has moved its New York City office to an iconic address opposite Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal to accommodate the company’s growing business and future ambitions in the US market.

The global specialty insurer this week moved into the 42nd floor of One Grand Central Place, a prominent skyscraper located at 60 East 42nd Street. The new address marks a notable evolution for Mosaic after growing out of its first startup location in Midtown South where it opened for US business in October 2021. Today, the company has close to 180 employees across seven countries.

“Our new home in this landmark building signals a clear intent and commitment to significantly accelerate growth in the US market,” said Co-Founder & Co-CEO Mark Wheeler. “It is an exciting step that will manifest in greater opportunities for our people, a broader specialty product offering, and enhanced market access for our syndicated capital partners, brokers, and clients.”

The new space accommodates an expanding team of specialists in the US, representing five of Mosaic’s seven business lines: environmental liability, political violence, political risk, cyber, and transactional liability. Mosaic also has teams based in its Chicago office, and more in Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, and Virginia.

“We’re proud to grow Mosaic’s physical presence in New York, and excited to join the Grand Central District’s corporate community,” noted Co-Founder and Co-CEO Mitch Blaser. “From the company’s launch in 2021, our strategic plan set its sights on global syndication of specialty underwriting expertise and continued growth and expansion in the US. Our team is focused on innovation and the power of partnerships, and this move underscores our dedication to this vital market.”

Originally “The Lincoln Building,” for the large bronze statue of the president in its lobby, the 55-story tower dating back to 1930 was renamed in 2009. Today, it houses global corporations across industry sectors and is one of just 41 buildings in Manhattan assigned its own ZIP code, 10165.

Mosaic underwrites across product lines selected for high technical barriers to entry and relevance to current and projected geopolitical and economic conditions: transactional liability, cyber, political risk, political violence, financial institutions, professional liability, and environmental liability. The company’s model is a differentiator, combining capacity from its own Lloyd’s syndicate, 1609, with capital from carrier partners seeking regional access and expertise in non-commoditized specialty lines, while retaining full underwriting and claims control.
