Hamilton, Bermuda—Specialty underwriter Liam Jones has joined Mosaic Insurance to focus on the startup’s global product innovation and insurtech strategy.
Based in London, Jones is SVP, Head of Business Development, reporting to Mosaic Co-Founder & Co-CEO Mark Wheeler and serving as a member of the Leadership Team. The role covers a broad remit that will see him leading activity to enhance existing coverage and address emerging exposures through the evolution of new products across the firm’s specialty lines. He will drive strong integration between underwriting and technology, working closely with all product units to enhance Mosaic’s pioneering insurtech platform.
“Liam has an outstanding reputation as a highly-regarded specialty underwriter. He is an innovator and strategic thinker with a strong sense of purpose, well known for his commitment to harnessing technology and the development and creation of new specialty products,” said Wheeler. “His skills are core to the Mosaic strategy, and, combined with our differentiated business model, will see him make an immediate impact.”
With 15 years’ experience in the global specialty underwriting sector, Jones has worked in the Lloyd’s, US, and Bermuda markets. Previously, he served as head of underwriting strategy for Liberty Specialty Markets, where he also ran the financial lines, healthcare, and special risks divisions. He is a mentor in the Lloyd’s Lab incubator and holds advisory board positions at several insurtech companies.
“At a time when the opportunity to advance products, distribution, and technical underwriting capabilities is so high, it is very exciting to join a company focused on harnessing what is possible,” noted Jones. “Our industry needs more solutions, improved efficiency, and greater transparency for clients—and I truly believe Mosaic is on course to demonstrate how this can be done successfully.”
Mosaic combines Lloyd’s Syndicate 1609 with a wholly-owned syndicated capital management agency, enabling the company to identify, source and underwrite business on behalf of itself and trade-capital partners. Its six select product lines launched to date include coverage for transactional liability, cybersecurity, political risk, political violence, financial institutions, and professional liability.
